St Michael the Archangel Church in Taleigao is one of Goa’s oldest and most important parish churches. Popularly called the Taleigao Church, it has a long Dominican history and remains a major centre of Catholic life in the Panaji area.

On 21 August, the parish also celebrates the harvest rite of the first sheaves of rice, known as Festa da Espiga. This links the parish liturgical calendar with the agricultural life of the village.
Note: Taleigao is also known for its six-altar church and for the Cristo Rei statue erected in the compound in 1967.
