The church began as a chapel sanctioned on 3 November 1848 and dedicated to St Joseph. The Communidade of Dramapur financed the construction, and the chapel came under the jurisdiction of Chinchinim.
The front portion of the chapel was enlarged about six years later. Priests from Chinchinim initially celebrated Sunday Mass there, and later the chapel received its first resident chaplain in 1912.
The chapel was raised to church status by provision on 9 March 1957 and officially inaugurated on 20 March the same year. That event gave Dramapur its own full parish identity. Later improvements included electrification, the blessing of a community hall, and substantial renovations to the church and parish facilities.
The church history is rich in community participation, with many local donations and initiatives helping to shape the present parish.
