The church began as a chapel built in 1890 and was originally affiliated with the church of Tilamola. As the local Catholic community grew, the chapel became a separate parish by the Provision of 1 April 1940.

The foundation stone of the new church was laid in 1960, and the building was opened for worship in 1962 or 1963. The parish later carried out renovations in 2001, while the old church was renovated in 2008 after being preserved by parishioners who wanted to keep it as part of their spiritual memory.
