History

The roots of the church go back to a village cross and a small chapel tradition that emerged among agrarian families in Davorlim. In 1960, the first chapel of Our Lady of Rosary was built, inaugurated, and blessed as part of Navelim parish.

As the local Catholic community grew, the chapel became too small. It was demolished in 2000 and replaced by a larger church, which was inaugurated in 2007. The parish was finally erected as a separate parish on 8 October 2022.

The administrative body of the parish is known as the Trust of Our Lady of Rosary, Davorlim. The church’s recent elevation reflects a long process of community growth and organized parish life.

Parish life

The parish has around 2,000 Catholics and is supported by a strong local community. Parish life includes worship, associations, social support, and educational activity that grew around the original chapel and the new church.

The Fatima Sisters were invited to help build the community, and the parish later established its own school to serve local children. These institutions show that the parish has developed as both a spiritual and social centre.

Because Davorlim is a working community, the church has always been closely connected to daily life, shared effort, and community organization.

Feast and devotion

The feast of Our Lady of Rosary is celebrated on the third Wednesday of November every year. It is the principal feast of the parish and the main celebration in the church calendar.

The parish feast is especially meaningful because it marks the community’s journey from a small chapel to an independent parish. It remains a time of prayer, thanksgiving, and collective celebration.

Note: The parish was formed through persistent local effort, so the feast is also a celebration of the village community itself.

Church building

The present church is a modern structure built to meet the needs of a growing Catholic population. It replaced the earlier chapel and provides more space for worship and parish activities.

The church also has a school and parish facilities that help support daily community life. Its form is practical and contemporary, while its identity remains rooted in the older devotion to Our Lady of Rosary.

Though recent in its parish status, the church represents a long local history of faith and cooperation.
