History
The church began as a chapel whose foundation was laid on 6 September 1866 and blessed on 6 February 1868. It was erected by provision on 20 July 1870.
In 1880, the chapel was made a military chapel by decree, serving the spiritual needs of Portuguese soldiers stationed in the area. Later, by provision dated 16 November 1938, it was detached from St Anne’s Church in Ponda and elevated to parish status.
A new and spacious church building was blessed on 1 November 2004, giving the parish a modern worship space while keeping the older devotional heritage alive.

The parish has around 450 Catholics and is relatively small, which gives it an intimate and close-knit character. It is still an active parish with community celebrations and a strong local identity.
