The first chapel in Mandur was built in 1710 through the initiative of gaunkar DionÃsio Ribeiro and his wife Angélica Rodrigues. The chapel was initially under Azossim parish but soon became an independent parish by decree on 1 February 1717.
Local tradition says DionÃsio decided to build the chapel after arriving late for Mass at Azossim and wanting a church in his own village. The tombstone of DionÃsio Ribeiro lies below the main altar, preserving the memory of the church’s founder.
The church has undergone several renovations over the years, and the adjacent parish house also reflects the Portuguese-period heritage of the site.
