The Boy and the Sandcastle
Theme: Eternal Perspectives vs. Earthly Attachments
A father and his young son spent an entire afternoon at the beach building the most magnificent sandcastle. It had tall towers, a deep moat, and intricate walls carved with a small stick. The boy was incredibly proud of his creation.
However, as evening approached, the tide began to roll in. Slowly but surely, the waves crept closer. The boy watched as a large wave washed over the moat, collapsing the front wall. Another wave came and wiped out the tallest tower. Within ten minutes, the magnificent castle was completely flattened, leaving nothing but smooth, wet sand.
The father expected his son to burst into tears. He braced himself to comfort the boy over the loss of his hard work.
Instead, the boy stood up, smiled brightly, grabbed his father's hand, and said, "That was fun! Let's go home now."
Reflection
We spend our entire lives building "sandcastles"â€â€wealth, status, businesses, and material possessions. We work tirelessly to make them magnificent. But eventually, the tide of time will wash every single one of them away. The wise soul knows that earthly things are temporary. When the tide comes in, the only thing that truly matters is holding the hand of our Heavenly Father as He leads us to our eternal home.
